Early Disaster Management Training

The real heroes during floods and landslides are the first-respondents, who use their skills to reach vulnerable people on time. 
Oxfam in Sri Lanka, together with Sri Lanka Red Cross Societyconducted six Disaster Management Training programmes during the month of April and (early) May in the Ratnapura and Kalutara districts.

The programme focused on:
✅Camp Managment
✅Search and Rescue
✅Gender in Emergency
✅Basic First Aid

We believe in being prepared.

  • SLRC trainer in the middle of a session

    The programmes saw the participation of 210 government officer from the DMC and NDRSC as well as Economic Development Officers, Grama Niladaris, Samurdhi officers and Women Development Officers.

  • Participants learning how to carefully transport an injured individual using household items, like a bed sheet, during extreme weather conditions. 

  • Learning how to tie knots with rope to be used as ladders, to tie items, carry heavy items, etc.
